Project Description
Typology: Research, Greenroof, Retrofit
Country: Bidjigal
Client: Department of Planning, Infrastructure and Environment (DPIE)
Project Description:
Perched above the bustle of Bondi Junction, the Pollinator Rooftop Car[Park] transforms an underused rooftop into a thriving pocket of biodiversity. The project reimagines a grey, heat-exposed surface as an active green infrastructure system supporting pollinators, native ecology and human interaction.
Through modular planters, lightweight soils, and resilient coastal species, the retrofit demonstrates how carparks — some of the city’s harshest and most overlooked spaces — can become productive, living landscapes. The design prioritises endemic planting and pollinator habitat, creating a vibrant, educational and climate-positive intervention that softens the urban environment while contributing to Sydney’s broader green network.
